The story began in 1997, when the company was founded. Its name’s story, however, comes from 1982, when the Walt Disney Pictures company released, at those times, revolutionary sci-fi action adventure film TRON. The film shows a conflict between good and evil in a virtual software world. It was one of the first films using extensive computer animation and was praised for the groundbreaking visuals and acting. The rendering was done on the legendary Cray-1 Supercomputer, the most powerful computer at that time. The film introduces a character named TRON, a security program of human appearance living inside a software world. TRON is a great ally to the main character - TRON’s developer and user – fighting to defeat a powerful enemy - a dangerous Master Control Program. “I met a brave warrior TRON … he fights for the users … he showed me things that no one had ever imagined … it was so radical … and together we built a new grid for programs and users …” – this is how the main character speaks of TRON in a film sequel – TRON LEGACY 2010.
In 2012 TRON became also a hero of the Disney XD animated series TRON: UPRISING.
The TRON movie series have also become a theme of several PC games.
